To me at least, the most urgent issue in this piece isn't the actual discussion about poverty. That's a vital discussion but we've been having it for decades without this dude and we'll continue having it for decades without him too.

The most urgent issue is that when he says "leftists told me this and they were right, but they said it in emotive terms and used justice-centred language so I ignored them" he doesn't understand that this is a sign that his decision-making about what to ignore and what not to ignore is broken.

It is every person's duty to find and believe the truth. If the truth comes at us in emotive terms, then we have a responsibility to prioritise listening to emotive language, not to blame truthtellers for using it.

Until he fixes that and starts to listen to people who are consistently right, he's only ever going to be right by accident, and that means that his contributions to the discussion can never be taken seriously.
