I've tried many distros and the best luck I've had is installing vanilla debian or arch and building on top of those. Always had issues with repos and missing dependencies with distros. Once I switched to vanilla versions and building on them 95% of those problems were resolved. These days I use arch (btw) for my pc's and debian for my servers. That's just my experience, results may vary.
