Most married men didn't cheat in 1976 and don't cheat now.
Perhaps in the culture of the entitled white men who made "Network", cheating was "just a thing bored men did," but I do not think it was or is representative of American culture as a whole.
It certainly isn't representative of the culture I've been in my whole life.
