Immutables are cool to futz with, but you need system software sometimes, especially if your running bare metal. You'll need driver packages or other system packages and that's a pita to configure. Apparently rpm-ostree has had some major upgrades recently in 43, but i've yet to try.
Personally there are very few bare-metal machines ive been able to use any desktop linux distro reliably on. I have one system that crashes 1/3 of the time, and can only run fedora. So I ended up holding packages just to keep it stable for now. It's all desktop issues. I've been running server distros for well over a decade, but desktops just can't handle the neutron style in the hardware variety I own.
