We tend to assume that capitalism is supposed to be based on competition, and that any products/companies/etc that are morally bad or unsustainable would tend to fail or be outcompeted by better things. But that invisible hand just keeps grabbing short-term gains fuck all consequences and everybody just... ignores that part. We keep acting as if there's checks or balances that would prevent everything from spinning into absolute destruction-- but no such mechanism is allowed.
