I think it was always unrealistic to think most would self custody and be self-sovereign. People prioritize convenience and efficiency, I’m no exception. Hal Finney and Satoshi saw this from the very beginning of Bitcoin.

I think that the availability of something like Bitcoin is huge for people that value that sovereignty and also I just mostly want hard money because look at the damage the money printer has done.

So I agree with you and think you’re probably right, although I don’t think on/off ramps would be to THAT level (I could be wrong).

But either way, it was probably always gonna happen in this way, but people around the world still have options to use it differently. As for the goals you discuss, I’ve agreed Monero solved that problem. They’re just different problems being solved, I think. But for the stuff you primarily care about and discuss — Monero for sure. Not Luke’s new hard fork coin TBD lol
