You're telling me genius, observant, sharp as a tack Odysseus didn't count the sheep himself? It just felt weird. There might have been an opportunity to show us how closely he pays attention, how he's constantly planning & scheming, but nah.
This Odysseus is a middle manager, not a devious schemer. It's dull & disappointing. Homer's Odysseus is something much more fascinating.
