he* was hardly being toxic. you're a tinkerer at heart, you say, so surely you'd understand why he'd lose patience with you when you insisted on maintaining dependence on inferior, proprietary tools like windows. imagine somebody who wastes thousands of dollars on the latest alienware gamerslop laptops and prebuilts of that ilk. when you tell him: "hey, you realize that's money down the drain, right? you can get equivalent laptops for half the price, or even build a significantly more powerful pc yourself. it's not hard, and you can learn it, and you'll thank yourself forever," he says "now why would i do that? nothing's going to work and i'll have no way to do the things i like." i'm sure if that repeated enough times, even out of sheer empathy you'd eventually get upset.
