Here’s my quarterly “FYI I don’t think 100% of AI is shit (only ~99.9%)” reminder:
OpenAI’s Whisper Large V3 model supports transcribing content in dozens of languages INTO ENGLISH (and others, it’s just the only one I can verify), and it runs locally on my MacBook Pro (M3 Pro 36GB).
I’ve used it on Korean and Farsi news, plus the Thai dialogue in White Lotus and it’s the most magical thing my computer has done in years.
Worth burning down the rainforests? Debatable! But it’s here, and free.
