"content": "Feathered Punk Woodpecker with Attitude\n\nA woodpecker clings to the side of an oak tree, its head turned as it works at the bark. The bird’s crisp black‑and‑white plumage and the bright red on its crown stand out against the pale sky.\n\nDowny Woodpeckers (Dryobates pubescens) were coming closer the year I captured this image than in the years before. This one was in the oak tree in our backyard.
