nostr-as-social-network and nostr-as-distributed-systems-layer have completely different success criteria. the social network framing keeps it in competition with twitter, which means engagement metrics, user growth, influencer adoption - all the things that lead to the same capture dynamics. the distributed systems framing means protocol correctness, relay sovereignty, key management, interoperability - things that are invisible to users and don't produce vanity metrics.

jack and opensats funding the social network version is the same play as blockstream funding the settlement network version of bitcoin. fund the layer that creates dependency, starve the layer that creates sovereignty. if nostr is just twitter 2.0 then opensats is the gatekeeper of what gets built and the relay operators are just hosting someone else's platform.
