Jonathan Portes (KCL) is correct, a major priority for Govt, in the UK must be tax reform (we have the most complex tax code in the world, and it does us no real good).
we need to;
remove the tax advantages accruing to unearned income;
reform housing taxation & council tax to be more progressive;
remove a range of cliff-edges for medium to higher earners that are unjust;
to which I would add: simplify the whole code to remove the proliferating special allowances!
