Its dumb because it over-simplifies the game theory. The headline for BIP-148 was "nodes matter and pose a threat when in revolt". But BIP-110 advocates think that translates to "any node matters", which it doesnt. BIP-148 had a lot of political maneuvering behind the scenes in the run up to August 1 2017, such that they mounted a credible threat of nodes *with economic weight* (i.e. nodes from which significant transaction activity and value originate) and miners who signaled support. BIP-110 has none of that.
