I think PP has painted himself into a corner.
A full 25% of Conservatives have a favourable view of Trump (Nov. ‘25 Research Co. poll) so he feels he can’t cut them loose. (At his January acceptance speech he made zero references to Trump). At the same time overall public opinion in Canada has hardened significantly against Trump. So PP is caught squarely in the middle.
It doesn’t help that he has failed to build alliances.
I hadn’t even considered the possibility of JJ making a leadership bid and methinks he would make the party unelectable. Meanwhile Ford is waiting in the wings and would likely be more acceptable as party leader.
