And here's the big one that should have frightened folks away from Apple: Apple used to give police users’ push notification data without a warrant. All they required were subpoenas, which are issued by police departments and law enforcement agencies with no judicial oversight.

If not for U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, the practice might still be happening. Thankfully, Apple now requires a court order or search warrant in the U.S. (both have to be approved by a judge).
