It differs per culture how yarn crafts are perceived. There was a time it was a necessary skill to have to make clothes. There are still countries where it's considered a poverty thing.
But in most cultures it's considered a hobby or an art form. And that's where the knit vagina's, pussycat hats etc pop up.
