I feel very uncomfortable with analyses that paint with such a broad brush. These men (they are almost exclusively men) are a minority within their age group. You look at them and you instantly recognise the type. It’s not an age thing. It’s not an economic thing. It’s not an education thing — because, for every externality you choose, there are overwhelming numbers who don’t behave like that. But in every era you observe the personality type at that stage of life.
