The liberating parts of Karl Marx, has been realized by capitalism. Workers own the means of production through shares.
Marx never intended to give control to the masses (liberty). He wanted the power to shape mans soul. He thought that if he controlled the means of production he can control humanity in such a way that he can reshape mans soul.
He rightly understood that you can't navigate large economic organizations with a committee. You need a dictator at the top to resolve conflicts and choose the direction. Marx wrongfully thought that that role will go to the philosopher (himself). When implemented that role went to the most vicious and political savy (Stalin, Mao).
A meritocracy is the only way to create a thriving society.
