Sometimes I have to laugh at the gimmickry of garden supply. I just got a "supply" catalogue from a bulb company I support. I will admit that there are a few tools I find invaluable, like a Japanese weeder, secateurs, a loop hoe, but I cannot fathom spending $150 on a tomato trellis or $99 on a cucumber trellis when I could use a stick. Seedling tongs? I have neuropathy and essential tremor and can still figure out how to get my seedlings out of the container.

I feel like it's beginner gardeners who get taken advantage of too. Like, who on earth told you that you needed a compost blanket? Have you heard of leaves? A sheet of cardboard? I haven't used a tomato cage in years because I realized I could just use a bamboo pole or a long stick and tie the tomato to it and never fight with trying to find the tomatoes ever again and then compost it when it had lived its life. Accessibility tools are one thing, but i feel like most of it is useless stuff for white people to spend their money on. Anyways, that's my grumpy rant of the day. Spend your money on plants and seeds.
