Huh. I wrote my own Wayland terminal emulator to go with my compositor, and it has similar properties with regard to memory footprint and dependencies (it uses EGL directly instead of a toolkit, and has no extra dependencies). However, it implements only the barest minimum to display to the screen. No scrollback buffer or anything. Instead, I run tmux in it, and that gets the daemon process and multiple sessions features.
