Along the same lines, maybe people are self-diagnosing with conditions that cause social difficulty because this society has become over-socialized. It used to be that making stuff and fixing stuff could earn you respect even if you weren't a genius at relationships. Under fiat you have to be good at kissing up social layers too survive, and there's always been a cohort who aren't built for that.
