Corning sold off their kitchenware division, and the company that bought the US portion was believed to have stopped following the recipe including tempering that made their flint glass-ware safe (enough) in stoves etc.
_Lots_ of reports of glass flying around disasters, although not much hard data or real and/or Official data and explanations. And the old stuff is selling well on eBay, I bought some myself.
