The weather in Nagano was dreadful, with thick clouds, temperatures well above 0°C and lots of rain.

I took the "Snow Monkey Express" to Yudanaka Onsen, a smaller tourist town a bit higher up.

The hotel I stayed at was run by a Japanese man (and his Chinese wife) who had been a professional ski jumper in Austria when he was younger ⛷️ 🇦🇹

The rooms were Ryokan-style and provided plenty of space, but little heating 🥶

I visited the "(non?)smoking Buddha" and prayed to him so that he may help my friend quit 🤞
