So when Nolan supposedly makes a film about guilt & regret & how brutality destroys civilization, it may feel deep, but you already know that war is terrible. You already know that violence destroys the bonds that make it possible for us to cooperate as human beings.
You're not learning something from that nor are you forced to confront it through a visceral experience. You're having things you already know repeated to you, so that you can sort of inject *your own thoughts* back into the movie.
