Now, The Northman managed to unsettle me a few times. I was not comfortable with it or the cultural values it depicts.
And that is part of what made it a powerful film. Eggers sinks into the historical time & place of his films. He makes them tangible & keeps them on the line of comprehensible as human stories but not familiar or comforting.
