Social construction theory posits that things exist because we agree that they do. One example is intelligence: We agree that someone is intelligent, therefore they are. I have long seen money as a social construction, regardless of its origins.

The tell is that to your cat, money is just paper, something different to bat at or lay on top of. Your cat has no comprehension that money can be used to buy cat treats and frankly doesn't care.
