I live off-grid on 40 acres I bought for cash in the 90s.
My water comes from a spring and this laptop is powered by the sun.

I still have a public facing business and there are certain taxes I have to pay.

However, the vast majority of my assets are not on any books. Therefore, I can contribute FAR more to projects I want to see succeed than I pay in taxes.

this isn't "hypocrisy." it is pragmatism.
I couldn't support my local community and my online communities if I was fighting a legal battle against the state for tax evasion, for example.

it is appealing and comfortable for idealists to say "it is either one or the other."
eventually you learn to do both and live in multiple worlds.

(or maybe you give up and be a tax slave, I dunno)
