there are downsides to 120V for sure. electric kettles take approximately twice as long here as they do there. and other high power devices like space heaters are less effective

but it's honestly fine for the vast majority of devices, very few need more than the 1500W that US outlets can provide (and there are almost always 240V circuits in US homes used for very large permanently installed devices like electric stoves, central air conditioners, EV chargers, etc)

for electronics it's all the same stuff all over the world for the most part for the past 20+ years. usually just the cord is different and it can operate at both voltages. pretty rare though not unheard of to have electronics that only operate at one voltage
