Q. what should we do with dilapidated buildings?
One answer is to knock them down & build new energy efficient homes instead... conversely, given they've locked in certain amount of carbon already, might refurbishment & energy efficient re-engineering of the building be a better bet?
If the latter, then conservation area & listed planning regulations may be getting in the way;
how we value the past & how much we value the future may be (as so often) in tension!
