I guess it's just my nature not to understand their mindset. I've always been the helper, the caregiver type, so I could never understand how those in a privileged position could go "nah, I'm not supporting making lives of others with my gender/skin tone/culture better because I'm different than the rest of them."
(Do they admit that "different" means "better than" to themselves, I wonder? Probably.)
The great philosopher Spock said "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." Guess that's why I gravitated toward liberalism over the years as my knowledge of the wider world increased. The conservatives in my family have become so narrow-viewed, so hateful and tribal in a sense.
I just can't understand being so against other folks having a better life, even if it's not your life or the path you would've chosen for yourself. Never could understand it.
