There is a high level of centralisation, especially in the Mastodon based part of the Fediverse. Classical Pareto Distribution, IMHO. 80% of the traffic happens between the big instances, with mastodon.social having the biggest share. If the admins there decide to block my instance, I would be cut off from many of my followers. That's not the decentralisation I am hoping for. And that's also why I decided back in 2018 to run my own small instance where I am user and admin.
