I believe most - if not all - "absurdist" art was just an artist making a point that society was not ready to hear.

It was easier to dismiss it as absurd silliness for the purpose of being absurd than to face the accurate allegations it made about where our society was going.

EDIT: I also believe some artists went along with this absurdist view obfuscating their message as a middle way between remaining silent versus being executed for speaking out.
