See here is the thing. That is a lazy inconsiderate attitude that I find to be shared by many developers who are more motivated by zaps and pandering features. Than they are about doing hard work that improves the protocol in the areas that it is severely lacking. Just, because new users want a basic fucking feature to help protect them from online stalkers and assholes. Does not mean that their points are any less valid. It is not a oh you are new here, get over it mentality.
It is not a matter of mute people who bother me and move on either. Shit that feature doesn't even work right, because people you muted will magically show back up on your global feed randomly. Happened to me 3 times today.
What it comes down to is this. Nostr is stagnating. It is dying a slow painful death. Statistics are showing that. For every two steps forward we take 3 steps back. Ignoring the one of many giant elephants in the room. By never providing basic fucking features that many new users bring up all the time. Is not something to ignore just because people are new here and developers have better things to do.
It is akin to saying hey we built this awesome sports car, but we aren't a safety focused manufacturer. So we aren't going to give you any brakes. Just take your foot off the gas peddle when you are going too fast. You will slow down eventually if the speed bothers you. It is that easy.
Just, because the Nostr developers who are on the Guardians of the Nips approval board can't agree on anything. Does not mean that they shouldn't stop getting high off their own smug to breath the fresh air every now and again. They might just sniff out that a lot of Nostr is smelling like shit. Half broken functionally speaking much of the time. Serious innovations need to be made now. Not later when you get around to agreeing on something.
You can have freedom of speech. You can have zaps. You can have everything that makes Nostr unique. You can also improve upon the protocol by giving people vital features when they ask for it. Especially when it concerns their personal safety. Online stalking is a real thing and has proven to be dangerous if sick fucks are motivated to take it too far into the real world after they gather enough information about you. Nostr users need to be able to block them effectively. Blocking assholes from following you should also be a basic fucking feature, because fuck those guys too. They're assholes.
I can't make Nostr developers give a shit about what I say. This is probably a long rant that will lead to absolutely nowhere. In 3-5 years if we don't get our shit together we are just going to be the new IRC. Where only the most hard core of stubborn OG users will still be using it. Present company included.
While someone else comes along with a more innovative protocol that includes all of Nostr's basic features including zaps. Plus all the good basic privacy and security features too. Which then makes Nostr become completely irrelevant and left in the dust. As those developers speed past us in an even faster sports car (brakes included this time) that they bought with their own zaps on their own fancy new protocol.
I love Nostr. It is why I am fucking here. I don't have to love the lazy fucking attitude that is killing the protocol, or the half assed vibe coding. Nor Nostr's inability to get our priorities straight as a protocol to adapt and thrive to the many challenges we are facing together. This is the difference between true professionalism and amateurs who are just fucking around for laughs and zaps. Which is fine, but don't expect any serious adoption, or market growth if we keep this childish attitude up for much longer.
