That is why more serious thought and consideration needs to be put into a solution that is viable. There are geniuses here that are capable of figuring it out. I am just pointing out the elephant in the room, because I have online stalkers who follow me who I have already muted.
A web of trust initiative for the major nostr clients to agree to block specific muted individuals, only for the users who muted them. Many relays already do shadow banning unofficially speaking. So I know that it is technically feasible at least partially. Still could be circumvented, but at least for non-technical stalkers it could be a stop gap measure for now.
Another way would be to have a privacy post mode. Where everything you post is encrypted. Then if the user permits the user to follow them and interact on their posts. A DM with their own user specific auto generated decryption key can be sent to the new follower and stored at the client level.
So that way once it is set up, all the posts load normally and are auto decrypted in the global feed for them. If it is ever revoked a new decryption key is generated and auto sent to everyone on their follow list. Then automatically updated client side so they are effectively shunned from the follower group. Posts would then show up encrypted for the muted user again. A little slow, maybe a little clumbsy, but it could work in theory.
Frankly I am not well versed enough to propose an effective solution unless one of the two mentioned would work. As it is right now Nostr is the holy grail of social networks for online stalkers. Something must be done to fix this fatal flaw in the Nostr protocol design. Anything is possible as long as you use your imagination to fuel innovation.
We just need nostr developers to actually start giving a shit about their users personal safety.
