Few things have radicalized me more against the US Government than seeing my roommate have to deal with all the shit the US military saddled him with and then refuses to take responsibility for.
The dude is 25; he already has really fucking bad arthritis in his knees, is scared shitless about loud noises (cf. fireworks, gunshots, etc.), and is horrified to get close to people because he saw 3 of his closest battle buddies die.
Instead of being a helpful institution, the VA seems committed to doing the least amount of work legally permissible.
I fared better but I was also a desk monkey.
