I guess ymmv, but I just tried on my Pixel 8 pro and no need to hassle with picture in picture or even go to home screen.
Play yt video on brave and put screen off, seems to just keep playing. You can even pause and resume from the lock screen.
Although I do remember times when it hasn't worked that way. Go figure 😅
