I hate it because it's adjacent to what has already happened with digital privacy. The idea that you can have a computer that doesn't spy on you, that a computer doesn't actually need to spy on you in order to function, is bizarre to many people. As a result of people buying into that assumption, the only way to get a computer to not spy on you is to *install a new operating system* or do some potentially hacky thing that the average person would never consider doing.
