In the early days of indie publishing, algos were HUGE in determining visibility -- because they actually worked. They surface popular books, you could do search, etc. Now it's all polluted with pay-to-play and controlled by the tech giants.
But is it how readers actually find books? I would argue actually no.
Caveat: Tiktok is for sure a huge way people discover books now, but not the only one...
