Because a contingent, perhaps the “child” contingent, may really have been raised to believe that non believers are awful awful wrong sick evil people. And if you’re a cunt to them on the doorstop, you’re just furthering that meme.

Whereas if you’re nice as pie, and confidently so, you never know, that wall of assumption might start to break down. There might be just an inkling of “huh.. well that atheist seemed nice… what?”
