I guess I pictured it like doing RBF or CPFP “through” a wallet run by mempool or something, in cases when the user’s wallet doesn’t offer those tools

But are you saying there are some transactions that literally can’t be sped up in those ways? I think I remember stephanlivera (npub1r8l…x5dk) mentioning something like this in his ad-read for Mempool. I assumed he meant that a Lightning node couldn’t initiate the RBF, rather than the transaction itself not being eligible.
