I love the idea of Nostr but can't get into it. I don't have any other social media. I understand that Nostr is a protocol and many apps can be built on it, which is fantatic. I guess I don't value the micro blogging / twitter like experience. I am frustrated because I want a social experience.
I don't care about memes, influencers, or updates about people days. I want signal, project updates, events, ... I understand I have control over who I follow.
Why are followers public? I don't want to publish everything I follow or who follows me. To me it just away to profile my account for ads. I see value in sharing my follow list to people I follow; it builds a web of trust. I think there are different types of users and businesses probably should be more public.
Why post? I really only want to post to a group of specific people.
I am not trying to shit on Nostr just trying to figure out how I can use Nostr. I dont want a distraction or a public life. I am sure most of this has probably been implemented and thought of already.

Sure, but they also hadn't developed alternatives. Of course people are more likely to be religious when they use that to explain most of the world around them. I also think religion and spiritual experience differ, but can occur simultaneously for some people. I have spiritual experiences frequently but I'm an atheist. There's no religion in it for me and I don't think it's mystical, but it's still beneficial for me.
Recently heard of acquired savant syndrome. Super fascinating. People essentially experience some sort of trauma or injury and acquire skills like playing instruments, instant calculation, new languages, etc

You can't really get to deeper meaning until you stop living barbarically. I think those ideas started there but developed as we matured and formed societies. It's much easier for me to love beyond my immediate circle than it would be without basic principles like not stealing or killing lightly.

I think they were mostly onto the fact that we have better odds of surviving and thriving if we aren't raping, killing, or stealing. At least within our own group. Obviously there are many examples of those principles not applying externally. That's for every major religion I know of.
