There is something particularly revolting in the way the Israeli army is explicitly and purposely targeting displaced refugees across Lebanon (accused of "hiding" military targets):
In addition to the usual indiscriminate killing of civilians, these bombings are clearly intended to stir up more sectarian violence and mistreatment of refugees…
I sincerely can't think of many war behaviours of the past century, that could compare to what Israel is doing and did not end up in a tribunal.

Looking for a very specific set of data and somehow failing to locate it:
I am interested in wealth *quantiles* per country per year (ideally for a number of past years).
Ie how much wealth each quantile has in that specific country. The more fine-grained the quantile, the better, but would manage with centiles.
Have checked WID, statista etc, but closest I can get, is bottom 50%, top 1%. I need the full quantisation.
Anyone?

At this stage, we are NOT discussing getting 20th century climate back (it's gone for our lifetime). Or even keeping it at 2025 levels.
What we are (barely) talking about here, when we discuss "curbing emissions", is our vanishing chance of preventing AMOC collapse or full ice cap meltdown.
The most optimistic (and increasingly unrealistic) scenario here, is one where half the planet is not underwater.

The weird thing about being in the middle of Europe's latest scorching heatwave… is that it's also one of those rare moments where the ongoing media freakout at sustained 40C weather, is vaguely in tune with my own sense of our impending climate doom.
Though I have no doubt come next week, people will happily go back to ignoring the climate crisis, while papers switch back to recommending the best flights to Marbella for a weekend getaway.

Billionaires should not exist.
We can always argue to eternity about the finer points of economic justice beyond that , but if we could just at least focus on that one part of the programme, we’d likely solve most of the urgent issues all at once.
As for the “how”: I naively think that merely enforcing aggressive and effective taxation that goes asymptotically to 100%, would do most the work. But admittedly we are fast reaching a point where a bit of guillotine-based coercion might help.

Lots of replies pointing out that the “convincing” might require some coercion. And maybe even a fair bit of violence. I don’t necessarily disagree.
It gets a bit dicier when we get to the specifics of who should be on the receiving end of that coercive violence: call me old-fashioned but I get a little uneasy whenever people come up with the one case where maybe we can just do away with democracy “for the greater good”. End, means, all that.
