I'm just saying that when push comes to shove, I don't think the military will refuse to follow illegal, unconstitutional, or immoral orders from Trump. I think they'll grumble about it, some will retire, and the rest will just do as they're told.
Military coups aren't good! But they're symptomatic of a society where every other check and balance has already failed and the regime is a direct threat to the civilian population.

Under normal circumstances, it's a good thing, but I think the military is exercising the same "it's somebody else's problem" mentality that keeps Democrats from being an effective opposition. No one in any position of power wants to be the one to make the first move or even tell people what's happening.

I think the military loathes Trump, Hegseth, and the others but their own stiff upper lip, obey orders, and don't rock the boat mentality largely precludes them from doing anything about it.

Even Republicans seem to be growing exasperated with the regime's "just make things up" approach, particularly guys like Lutnick who have no idea what they're talking about.
Lutnick and Project 2025 operatives like Vought have a specific vision they would like to implement but they don't like to talk about it because it would decimate the economy.
They're not interested in trade deals, for example, so much as trying to force domestic manufacturing into existence.

What's funny about these guys is they have some of the easiest, most lucrative scams in the country already, like health insurance, they have massive conglomerate monopolies for almost every food or household product, and that just wasn't enough for them. They are running up against the fact that most Americans just don't have any money to give them anymore, and so they're going to destroy the systems that enable the country to keep functioning, which undergird their entire profit scheme.

The ultra-wealthy, in their crusade to scammify everything to squeeze a few extra dollars out of us, have funded and amplified anti-science, anti-health groups and fascist hate groups who promise to do away with our remaining social welfare and legal protections so the rich can finish grinding us all into paste. American fascism would never be this powerful without the dick pill guys and "AI" losers bankrolling them.

"Why don't Americans protest more" is a funny question because Americans have nothing and no one to rally around, no coherent ideology beyond a vague sense of patriotic duty, a lot of them are ignorant by design, many more are exhausted by design, protesters are universally portrayed as violent terrorists, they get no political support or protection (unless they're Nazis) and they get brutalized by cops with military gear whenever they do show up in numbers, no matter how peaceful.

Crime is near a 50 year low but elected officials on a bipartisan basis keep pushing for billions more to cops and draconian 90s style "tough on crime" policies that don't work -- but they do increase inequality and discrimination.
To some extent, it's a product of white hysteria and a media that scaremongers about cities and minorities. But increasingly, it looks like the wealthy elite are putting the screws to us with the intention of making things even worse.
