Version 2026.04.07 is already out on Codeberg, F-Droid, iOS and Flatpak -and soon on Google Play too!
The update includes #OpenStreetMap data from April 5, brings a refreshed outdoor map style, displays if organic options are available in stores/restaurants/…, and localized road shields for more countries.

it's around 300GB, each map version is ~100 GB for the whole world and we like to keep 3 versions around, so that people who haven't upgraded the map yet still get maps in the meanwhile

To allow all of our users to download offline maps reliably and quickly, we need servers in many different locations. Some of these servers are rented, thanks to the donations we get.
But some of them are also hardware donations, where we are allowed to use otherwise underused hardware! A big thanks go to Mathias Klein as well as the French OpenStreetMap chapter [@osm_fr](https://fr.osm.social/@osm_fr ), who provide us with server capacities in Germany and France respectively!

The download servers for the maps are distributed over different countries as a CDN - but you can pick one if you want to avoid particular countries - or even self-host the map files if you want to distribute them locally

ah yes, storing the maps on an SD card might be the problem. If the card has problems or is too slow it can happen (see https://www.comaps.app/support/the-app-is-very-slow-and-maps-are-stored-on-an-sd-card/)
Could you try changing the storage location to the internal memory and see if that makes a difference?

Das entsprechend zu enkoppeln ist geplant, allerdings müssen für viele Änderungen auch immer sowohl App als auch Karten angepasst werden (z.B. wenn neue POI-Arten unterstützt werden muss die App selbst die unterstützen und die entsprechenden Punkte müssen in die Karten eingebacken werden).

most of this CoMaps can do: You can add bookmarks to any places/points on the map and name/rename them at any point, add notes to the saved points - and you can record tracks. The only thing that you can't do is give a track a name before recording it 🙂

Release 2026.02.09 is out!
Beyond fresh #OpenstreetMap data, you can now search for æøå, disable the display of speed limits on Android, and when navigating in Apple Car Play or Android Auto, 3D buildings are disabled to improve legibility of the map.

yes, I believe this is due to the fallback geolocating via the IP when everything else fails, while herewego likely just doesn't update the position when no sufficiently accurate geolocation can be found using satellites/wifis

yeah, not all feature types that are displayed are also enabled on the CoMaps editor. But good on finding out how to add it via the iD editor.
I'm not an expert on mapping maritime navigation, but based on the wiki-descriptions that looks good!

that generally helps with getting better location fixes, but even with it being enabled it could still "default" to your IP if all other sources are not delivering high-quality data. 🙂

Okay, so I think I found the issue: If neither the GPS nor the "Fused Location" works, then the MicroG location service might fall back to using IP-based location. Andd I guess in your case the IP your phone gets from your mobile phone provider locates to there!

Oh, do you have the "fused location" setting turned on? It then takes into account things like WiFi and Bluetooth signals. And it could be that the on-board wifi is saved in the "fused location database" as being in Stockholm!

If you're looking to get off Google Maps, exporting your bookmarks/favorites from Google Maps can make a good start. Thanks to @npub1fe8…z49w and his converter, you can easily convert your saved locations from there into a file format that you can import to CoMaps!
