oh I had access to a CRT oscilloscope in our embedded systems lab in grad school. We had some LCD ones too, but the analogue ones just felt so much better. You could adjust your sample rate just right and get a perfect straight line from the aliasing from a sine wave generator.

I like the term "Load-bearing shell scripts." If it starts getting past 20 lines and you're using it for CI/deployment/tests/etc. you should replace bash/sh/zsh with something else.
Why the Python hate? Python3 is pretty stable, and even has type hinting. Virtual environments and uv are your friends. Although at that point it's no longer a simple shell script, but if you really don't want to use a venv, almost every linux distro has the major libraries you need (requests and such) in the package manager.

Today someone will say that's AI. I remember. I remember seeing this when it came out, the girl in Melbourne who was put in a choke hold for not wearing a mask, the people locked in hotel rooms in Brisbane for weeks .. I remember May 1st, when the mask mandate came to Chicago, and I drove to Indiana for nearly a year for groceries and never once wore a fucking mask. I ended up ordering the one in the picture off of Reverb. The listing didn't say it had been serviced or had photos of the case opened up. I'm a bit weary of vintage stuff like this, but it's less than half the price of the new Onkyo M-80.
I'll test it to make sure it works, but after that I'm going to open it up and make sure there's no corrosion and no leaky caps. The glue on these can get conductive if it gets corroded by leaky caps, so you have to clean it really well after you de-solder them.
Hopefully it's been in use and not in storage, which can keep caps from breaking. If not, well, it will be my first recapping project. 😅
I'll be using this Douk to switch between amps, and a Douk D5 as the pre-amp from my DAC to both amps. The switch has good reviews, but there is nothing on the D5, so hopefully it doesn't suck.

I try not to go to shops, unless it's something really difficult like the timing belt. I've had dealerships completely fuck up simple things like drive belts. They're so easy to do I might as well do it myself and do it right.

That sucks ass. I've only had their home theater receivers. I only learned about their hi-fi amps recently. They release a 2-channel power amp last year. It's not too expensive by hi-fi standards, but still up there.
I have a Willsenton R8 tube amp, but I sorta used it for everything and tubes/repair can get expensive. So I'm working on building out a setup with a Douk Audio speaker/amplifier switch so I can easily switch between two amps, and then only turn on the tube amp when I really want to crank some music.

I don't use Gapps. I don't even use microG. I don't have any social media. I don't play any mobile games (I have Star Realms installed/synced but haven't played in months). I use the camera, music, podcasts and very rarely, Here maps/navigation.
I still have a felling even with all my scale-down and customization, it might run like shit with 4GB of ram because that's just how insane base-Android has gotten.
I'd look at Linux offerings, but I really like the Camera on the 1 V and how the Sony camera app will just work without any GServices.

There is a lot of digital collection out there. I spot more license plate readers all the time (both Flock and others). Sure not all of the datasets are well connected ... that just means most of them are wrong. How many background checks turn up two unrelated people who happen to have the same name? The LLMs/AI are going to make this matching even worse.
But one cannot ignore the large data collection by big government contractors like Palentir, Oracle, et. al. That information will come together; it's probably already getting packaged together, with promises of high AI-accuracy ... how long until the first LLM "hallucination" induced swatting?

I don't think any of the stuff in the screenshot had a chat component to it; or if it did, it was really limited. Predators have really exploited any online game with chat components that happens to have kids playing on it.
When we played games as kids, it was on non-networked consoles doing couch versus or co-op.
