the core of the original rabbit paper is that you can do a magic trick where you mechanically convert the code to imperative form by just rewriting it in continuation passing style and then doing all imperative-friendly compiler passes on that before turning it into opcodes/machine instructions
this means that you do not need any other intermediate representation than this, and the representation is still in the original language

you can bail out of a minor gc into a major gc in a cheney collector by just continuing to scan and update pointers via any fowardings created up to the point of bailing but not doing any new copying, then after that the world is consistent (but split between the heap and the nursery) and you can just run a major gc at that point

i think a consistent model is "if the first byte of an allocated or copied object would be inside the nursery and the last byte outside, trigger a minor gc - if the first byte would be inside the heap and the last byte outside, trigger a major gc"

@nprofile…ux7q i had a very safe childhood mostly so i can't have an opinion on that, but regarding diagnoses there's two notes here i think: first of all having any of those diagnoses will often directly lead to childhood trauma of various kinds, and second of all they're highly inheritable so autistic and ADHD parents (who can be very dysfunctional) will have autistic and ADHD kids
