yes, that sounds like a reasonable approach.
Here at mastodon.social, the federated timeline has been eliminated since Jan/Feb of this year, and so there is only the Trending remaining as a discovery route.
My intention is to look for a supplement to make discovery routes more robust and user controlled.
I agree with your take on the Trending, and for that reason, am proposing some measure of change to allow the user to control what is seen there, without needlessly muting (as I have)

I like this. So, are you proposing that the new Lists feature could be integrated back across and somehow used in that sense on the Trending?

Today I decided to try something different to change the dynamic of the Trending Tab. I scrolled and manually Muted any account above 20k followers. I did this as an experiment.
I am liking the results but, I know that I don't really want to exclude the bigger accounts permanently. Right now, I am tuned in to the 'Small-Fry' accounts.
I really like it. What's your take? Any tips?

I guess the #Facebook Glasses Man wasn't spending all the company's money on AI after all. He was just re-routing all 'AI' queries to a secret sweatshop in Nairobi.
Now that this reality has been exposed, we know that Man does truly stand a chance again the supposedly indomitable machine mind.
Our only hope is that this Kenyan intelligentsia cyber-cell will save us all from certain doom.

also, if you have those things re-tool any part of your code, you will then need to re-read and re-learn that portion which is a big problem. Probably leave all of the AI re-tooling to the very end, if at all. Then you could at least do a single continuous review.

it sounds like we are both working on the same thing just now. I'm working at just trying to get the basics on HUGO. I only wish that I could have gotten the entire documentation on my local machine but, when I actually looked at it online, there wasn't a whole lot there.
Probably that is a good sign. Did you find that 11ty seemed more complex/messy? That was my thinking during selection.
