Hello. It's open source. You can even generate one new key for a new garage on each interaction. Please, don't spread FUD without good arguments

# The Garage Key is coming to RoboSats 🔑
> Let me explain what’s changing, why it matters to you, and what you need to do (spoiler: save ONE key properly).
## The short version
RoboSats is changing how robot identities work. Before, you generated a random token for each trade—and if you lost it, goodbye robot and goodbye rewards. Now there’s the **Garage Key**: a single master key that deterministically generates **all your robots**. One key = your entire garage.
## What changes in practice?
| Before | Now |
|---|---|
| A random token for each robot | One Garage Key generates unlimited robots |
| You had to save a different token every time | You save ONE key, once |
| If you lost the token → the robot was unrecoverable | Enter your key and the app recovers everything |
| Identity rotation depended on you | Rotation happens automatically after each trade |
## Your new workflow
**1. Create or import your Garage Key.** When you open the app, you generate your key or paste one you already have. Save it offline—in writing, in a password manager, wherever you like, but save it properly. It’s the only key you need.
**2. Trade as usual... but better.** The app automatically derives the next available account (#0, #1, #2…) and creates a fresh robot for each trade. You don’t have to do anything extra.
**3. Automatic rotation.** When a robot finishes an order, that account is marked as used and the app suggests moving to the next one. A robot that has already completed a trade is blocked from placing new orders. You’ll see a message like *“navigate to a new account for fresh privacy.”* This prevents you from accidentally reusing identities.
**4. Explore your garage.** With the **Account Navigator**, you can move between your past and active accounts from your profile.
**5. Recovery.** Lost your device? Fresh installation? Enter your Garage Key and the app queries the Nostr relays to discover how far you got. Your garage is then restored with all your robots. Recovery metadata is encrypted (NIP-59), so only your key can read it. No coordinator can recover your identity for you.
## Heads up: Legacy mode
After updating, the app starts in **Legacy view**. Don’t worry: that’s intentional.
- It’s used **only to finish ongoing trades** with old tokens.
- The buttons for creating orders, viewing offers, and onboarding are disabled and show explanatory messages.
- Everything new goes through Garage Key mode.

- It’s used **only to finish ongoing trades** with old tokens.
- The buttons for creating orders, viewing offers, and onboarding are disabled and show explanatory messages.
- Everything new goes through Garage Key mode.
In other words: no one loses an active trade because of the change, but the way forward is the Garage Key.
## Things you should keep in mind
- **Your Garage Key IS your identity.** Whoever has it controls your robots and their rewards. Treat it like a seed phrase.
- **Recovery depends on the Nostr relays.** If you’ve spent a long time without connecting, recovery may take a while to discover all your accounts.
- **Don’t mix old tokens with new accounts** expecting them to merge—they’re separate systems. Finish the old ones in Legacy mode, then start fresh with your Garage Key.
- **Privacy gets better on its own:** rotation after each trade no longer depends on your memory; it’s the default behavior. But be careful: if you reuse an account that has already been used, the warning is there for a reason.
## Why this matters
Before, RoboSats gave you privacy through identity rotation... as long as you did it properly and didn’t lose your tokens. Now, privacy and recoverability are **structural**: they’re built into how the system works, rather than depending on your discipline. Recovery is also decentralized—relays plus encryption—so it doesn’t depend on any server or coordinator.

5. Recuperación. ¿Has perdido tu dispositivo? ¿Has hecho una instalación nueva?

Sure. To calculate the entropy of a passphrase with random characters you need to use the formula. For example, if you passphrase is 5917740401 it would be log2(10^10)=33.22 which is very very low.

2026-08-04 05:12:25 UTC

For those who want to generate a strong passphrase, with enough entropy to avoid single points of failure and to add an extra safeguard in case the entropy of the generated seed is weak for any reason:
\[
E = \log_2(N^L)
\]
Where:
E = entropy in bits
N = size of the character set
L = password length
Character set size:
- Numbers only: \(N = 10\)
- Lowercase letters only: \(N = 26\)
- Uppercase letters only: \(N = 26\)
- Numbers + lowercase letters: \(N = 36\)
- Numbers + uppercase + lowercase letters: \(N = 62\)
- Numbers + letters + special characters: \(N \approx 94\)
Ideally, the passphrase should exceed 90 bits. 128 bits or more is even better.
In practice, length has much more impact than artificial character mixing.
This all assumes fully random characters. Since that is usually not the case with passphrases created by people, the real entropy is typically much lower. That is why it is better to leave a wide safety margin. You can estimate the apparent strength of your passphrase with zxcvbn (for example, in KeePassXC), but remember that this is extremely sensitive information and that it is risky to type it into digital systems, except in trusted offline environments.

2026-08-04 05:10:23 UTC

\[
E = \log_2(N^L)
\]
Donde:
E = entropía en bits

To accelerate development and ensure better platform maintenance, we're excited to announce the appointment of new maintainers to the RoboSats' repository. Moving forward, all changes will require approval from more than one maintainer.
We're confident this collaborative approach will help us resolve issues faster, deliver new versions more frequently, and most importantly, provide you with an even better service and user experience.

We live in the game set by those who concentrate power. Every year we replay the same conversations about the same topics, guided by politicians and media that aim to control what we think. Vegan eco-resilience, abortion, identities, cultural heritage, strikes — debate focuses on what provokes, not on what unites us.
Yet we all share the same universal wants and needs: not to be robbed, the chance to build a life project under stable rules, access to good healthcare, the ability to live in peace. But we rarely talk about why those goals aren’t guaranteed or what limits we should place on those who usurp power. Today's debates are designed to divide and silence, not to build. Their goal is to keep their place on the throne.
As Bernard Cohen said: “The press may not succeed in telling people what they ought to know, but it is amazingly successful in telling them what to think about.” That explains why we spend hours on topics imposed on us.
What to do about it?
Reduce exposure: turn off social media, TV and radio. If it doesn't reach you directly, it can only affect you through others.
Prioritize the essentials: spend time with family and friends, exercise, eat well, and go into nature without your phone; this is what matters most at the end of each day.
Work on what you believe in and seek purpose: find what excites you, share and confront ideas with people who add value — don’t waste time on sterile conversations.
Finally, give your opinion: it’s important to communicate and present your ideas; sometimes you’ll be wrong or someone will appreciate a new perspective. But if expressing yourself causes friction with people who matter to you, ignore the noise, accept disagreement, and move on. Not everyone has to fit your ideal model — it’s absurd to lose a friend or family member because they think differently about something that, however important to you, likely doesn’t make you incompatible.
Don’t separate over trivialities; the more united we are, the stronger and less manipulable we become.
As was repeated many times a few months ago: only the people save the people.

2025-10-12 21:03:55 UTC

It's best to use a new identity each time if you want true privacy. Keeping persistent identities requires maintaining records, and those records are vulnerable to attacks and can be exploited to target users. Likewise, reputation alone offers **no guarantee**: a scammer can create a fake reputation by interacting with themselves and then use that false trust to defraud unsuspecting users.
These issues have been discussed many times over the years, and the arguments for why systems are built this way have been explained. As my colleague @nprofile…xx00 mentioned, we are exploring methods to improve this: we discuss often how to help in these situations, @nprofile…k3na is working in new infrastructure and weare open to any suggestions you may have.
The key point to understand is that the weak link here is fiat-money channels. In this case Revolut is not effectively managing user behavior or reliably verifying identities (people are creating accounts with false or stolen information). Until that is fixed, scams will continue. Unfortunately, this is outside RoboSats’ control — it’s a problem with banks and their policies. Similar scams also occur on Wallapop — and there, reputation systems exist too.
Thank you for sharing your experience

olas de plata y azul;
y ve el capitán pirata,
cantando alegre en la popa,
Asia a un lado, al otro Europa,
y allá a su frente Estambul:
«Navega, velero mío,
sin temor,
que ni enemigo navío
ni tormenta, ni bonanza
tu rumbo a torcer alcanza,
ni a sujetar tu valor.
Veinte presas
hemos hecho
a despecho
del inglés,
y han rendido
sus pendones
cien naciones
a mis pies.»
Que es mi barco mi tesoro,
que es mi dios la libertad,
mi ley, la fuerza y el viento,
mi única patria, la mar.
«Allá muevan feroz guerra,
ciegos reyes
por un palmo más de tierra;
que yo aquí tengo por mío
cuanto abarca el mar bravío,
a quien nadie impuso leyes.
Y no hay playa,
sea cualquiera,
ni bandera
de esplendor,
que no sienta
mi derecho
y dé pecho
a mi valor.»
Que es mi barco mi tesoro,
que es mi dios la libertad,
mi ley, la fuerza y el viento,
mi única patria, la mar.
A la voz de «¡barco viene!»
es de ver
como vira y se previene,
a todo trapo a escapar;
que yo soy el rey del mar,
y mi furia es de temer.
En las presas
yo divido
lo cogido
por igual;
solo quiero
por riqueza
la belleza
sin rival.
Que es mi barco mi tesoro,
que es mi dios la libertad,
mi ley, la fuerza y el viento,
mi única patria, la mar.
¡Sentenciado estoy a muerte!
Yo me río;
no me abandone la suerte,
y al mismo que me condena,
colgaré de alguna entena,
quizá en su propio navío.
Y si caigo,
¿qué es la vida?
Por perdida
ya la di,
cuando el yugo
del esclavo,
como un bravo,
sacudí.
Que es mi barco mi tesoro,
que es mi dios la libertad,
mi ley, la fuerza y el viento,
mi única patria, la mar.
Son mi música mejor
aquilones,
el estrépito y temblor
de los cables sacudidos,
del negro mar los bramidos
y el rugir de mis cañones.
Y del trueno
al son violento,
y del viento
al rebramar,
yo me duermo
sosegado,
arrullado
por el mar.
Que es mi barco mi tesoro,
que es mi dios la libertad,
mi ley, la fuerza y el viento,
mi única patria, la mar.

@nprofile…ml9t is an open‑source project: anyone can propose code improvements, fix existing bugs (take a look at https://github.com/RoboSats/robosats/issues — there are tasks for all skill levels and BTC bounties), or create something new from it (a “fork”). It is also a federation: we do not impose universal rules. We offer recommendations and each coordinator is free to follow them or not. Users should be fully aware of this, do their own research, and decide whom to trust before acting blindly. A few minutes of checks can save a lot of time and trouble later. Anyone can contribute expertise, file complaints, or suggest improvements to the general recommendations.
A coordinator may adopt the same approach as others or choose a different one if they believe it better fits their users’ needs or will be more successful. The market will decide, and others will adapt their policies accordingly. Anyone can implement their own policies, create a new page, or become a coordinator.
As a federation, we strive to maintain the highest quality standards for users, stay in contact with the community and coordinators, and remain vigilant for evidence of malicious or irregular behavior. If a coordinator proves malicious, we will expel them from the federation (though in the long run honesty is usually more profitable, since trust is hard to earn and maintain). That means the coordinator will not appear as an option on the official RoboSats site, but they may operate independently and no one can stop them.
The current main friction point for RoboSats is the use of fiat platforms. It’s important that users choose platforms with the lowest risk of withdrawing funds after the swap completes. In this respect, in‑person exchanges offer the strongest guarantee (it's important to verify that banknotes are genuine — for example, by watching them come out of the ATM or using banknote verification tools). However, in that scenario personal safety is more exposed, so it’s important to take appropriate precautions.
Inform yourselves, act sensibly, and enjoy being sovereign individuals.

Laws, corrupted by those who seek power, are not made to be obeyed but to be broken when it suits their creators, so that anyone can be declared a criminal and the State gains the legitimacy to do whatever it pleases with them.

It's a false dichotomy; you don't have to choose between a parasitic government and poverty. In fact, it's more likely that you would end up riding a horse on dirt tracks under a socialist government than in a society that respects private property and is free from violence
