Eminently sensible from the Scottish Government. The UK Government now needs to ask itself it really wants parents facing 5 years in jail for not using they/them pronouns for their "nonbinary" teenagers. (This is not a joke, nonbinary is in the Bill and the former minister approvingly cited a report that classified pronoun stuff as "conversion therapy").

Great work from the Alliance today. The conversion bill is a trojan horse designed to sneak contested identity politics concepts into criminal law.
Activists will use it as a low cost litigation tool to silence organisations and harass opponents.

The Gay Men's Network was outrageously libelled by Amnesty as "anti rights" despite our work to protect the 80-90% gay/lesbian youth at gender clinics where staff joke "soon there will be no gay people left".
We are beyond grateful, emotional and touched by the decency of JKR.

7/ The other target will be doctors, nurses and psychs. Now there's a carve out in the bill for healthcare, but that doesn't preclude a prosecution even if it's doomed. The process is often the punishment in this area of politics and Stonewall tried with with Dr Hakeem.

8/ As I commented yesterday, this bill is very wide. It can criminalise any behaviour, there is no definition of transgender identity, there's no requirement you have a duty of care and it extends to organisations. This is a disaster waiting to happen

6/ This opens the door to vexatious actors instituting proceeds against people and organisations according to the draft bill.
My prediction is that organisations would be targeted, particularly those offering advocacy and political leadership.
It would be quite the weapon.

5/ Previous Private Member's Bills on Conversion have contained an AG's permission requirement, so I infer from that the Government must have considered that and left it out. This is really dangerous because the conversion offence is very wide and can be *any* conduct.

4/ So, where the DPP or AG think someone is pursuing a vexatious or politically motivated private prosecution you can see they can either refuse permission to prosecute or the DPP can assume the legal personality of the prosecutor and drop the case if he likes.

3/ Now what you normally do with serious offences or politically contentious areas of criminal law is to put them beyond the reach of private prosecutors by requiring permission to prosecute from the AG or DPP. Here are some DPP examples from the CPS website.

2/ First point to make is the default position under the Prosecution of Offences Act 1985 is that any either way offence can be privately prosecuted in England and Wales (but not Scotland). Now, you can see in s.6 there the CPS can jump in if they like and take over/drop the case

1/ As it stands, The Conversion Practices Bill permits a private prosecution of the conversion offence. I predict big trouble ahead here with various outfits like the Good Laugh Project and Stonewall weaponising this legislation and I'll explain why.

I will have more to say in due course, but if I’m reading the CP Bill correctly it is now a crime to say to your lesbian daughter “I am not paying Helen Webberley to give you testosterone” but Webberley commits no crime by doing so.

The BBC ignored the Times, Telegraph and GB news pointing out 80-90% of the youths at the Tavistock were gay/lesbian while commissioning Dr. Who episodes about pronouns and teaching children there were 100 genders. Your organisation has been complicit in gay conversion therapy.

1/ A betrayal that would make Judas blush. The anti-gay @npub12cy…2e52 maintain their open door privileged access to the seat of power in the UK, and they complain that the Supreme Court says homosexual means same sex attraction and lesbians can form their own associations.

Rob makes a number of powerful and perceptive points here re that new BBC conversion therapy show where gay men have to pretend to be ok with kissing women on pain of public cancellation courtesy of our institutionally homophobic national broadcaster.

This is how stressed I feel knowing I’ve been cancelled by “Wizarding News” (lol) relaxing in my garden. Some people can’t stand the fact homosexual males have a political voice and we stubbornly insist on fighting for gay rights.
Idiot homophobes. You make lol.

There is no such thing as a "moderate" trans position. You either believe in a biological basis for sex or you do not. With the best will in the world, this is not a compromise debate where clever triangulation helps. Either kids get puberty blockers or not.

Guys, can I suggest we check with @npub1fmp…5f3g whether @npub19nd…js4x do in fact speak for the "overwhelming majority" of officers because if they do and "PIS" is being used as a proxy against an elected official we have a problem.
