So it looks like there's a concerted effort to register fake parties to try to redirect preferences to One Nation in the upcoming Victorian elections.

What are people using when they want a like button or similar on their blog, but want to avoid any invasive tracking as much as possible?
Ideally I'd want something that works with WordPress - but the official plugin for this ties everything into a WordPress account (which is both inconvenient for random visitors and way more privacy invasive than I'd like).

I went and tried to find if there's ever been a prior CVE for notepad and came up empty.
So decent odds that this is the first CVE Windows Notepad has ever had.
That's an accomplishment, just not of the good kind.

I'd argue its part of an much larger blind spot - they frequently seem unable to comprehend the role of any system (not just institutions), attributing everything to individual attributes.
They simply can't see the forest for the trees.

It's strange to me to hear it argued that FPTP is more effective at reflecting the views of the median voter than say IRV / STV.
I would've expected the opposite to be true, as you eliminate the whole splitting / wasting your vote problem and therefore a lot of the incentive to vote strategically.

It's probably also worth raising Coey Doctorow's "Felony contempt of business model" (the abuse of IP law to extract economic rents - be that from overpriced printer ink, by limiting repairability or some other measure).
That does probably also dovetail into this discussion as one of the factors that's enabled businesses to increase profits without increasing productivity.

I wonder if part of the problem is that lobbyists have managed to reframe productivity as something that governments deliver through policy, when really the cause of productivity is businesses spending on capital upgrades.
Something that they do less of when they start to secure economic rents through lobbying and other measures.

I suspect Cory Doctorow's take - that Trump would use antitrust and regulators to go after corrupt companies. Just selectively - companies that "kiss the ring" will be spared.

Possibly, though to be quite honest I suspect most use cases would be better served by just adding RSS support (e.g. Hansard should absolutely have an RSS feed, rather than just posting to an account on X).
There's some use cases that might benefit from the ability to reply, but for the most part that just opens up a whole can of worms around the federal government having to moderate those discussions that's quite politically fraught.

Slow uptake is probably healthier, but we should be looking at what Bluesky is doing well and incorporate it where it makes sense, and we should still try to understand why it isn't as comfortable a place for some users as it is for us.

I've started a blog recently and I'm thinking it's probably worth having a page that explains what RSS is to help people get started.
Ideally I'd like to link to good resources where I can - are there any good pages out there that would be ideal for helping someone select their first RSS reader? Should ideally include free/FOSS options since I don't want to only point them to subscription services.

We need to figure out how to cut through with people who aren't paying attention to anything but their current grocery prices.
Especially because it's rarely the case that the current governments policies are the sole factor, and yet so many seem to treat them as the sole barometer of whether a government did a good job.
